Day 73; July 9 - Cooper Landing to Homer

We (me--the dingy one) didn't get up until 8:30am.  Everyone was waiting on me.  Miss B had been awake since 4:30am.  She is enjoying the sunshine.  We had either rice or oatmeal and toast for breakfast.  We then headed south for a really good day.

Our first stop was at an Orthodox Russian church.  The markers were old wooden crosses.  The church was decorated with gold globes on top.  Very unique.  MK and Miss B saw a grave with a cookbook hung on her cross.  Don't put one on mine!  There was also one with framed letters attached.
This was a sign by the cemetery.
I had to take a photo of these wild flowers.

This is a picture of Gary filming with his camera.  He has film today.
Mrs. B and I had to use the restroom.  We found this little jewel hidden in the weeds out back.  It had a moon and everything.  Even a real toilet seat.  Gary paved the way for us....I went first, Mrs. B followed.  MK was too chicken or has more control?  She went down the road in a real one.  As we were loading up and buckling up, I glanced down the dirt road from the church and saw a mother moose with her two calves.  They were too fast and we did not get pictures.

We are getting closer to Homer.  Great little harbor town.
We found the Salty Dawg.  Does anyone know the words to the song?  We were going to have lunch there, but it was mainly a bar.
So, we ate at the Smily Cafe.  MK and I had Fish and Chips, Miss B had Shrimp, and Driver had a Burger and Fries.  This picture is a view from our dining table window.
On the way back to the Salty Dawg, we stopped to watch them dressing the Halibut from the fishing boats.  Interesting!!
This is one of the Captains.  They have a system.  While the lady was filleting the fish, she would pull off her rubber gloves and answer her cell phone.  She then would put the name of the next boat coming in on her black board.  They dressed the fish in the order of calls.
 Friendly Captain! Me, and MK.
The inside of the Salty Dawg was covered in bills.  Hope it doesn't catch on fire!
These two beauties were applying for a job.
Here it is!  A lighthouse that was attached to a cabin or a cabin that was attached to a lighthouse?  That is like the chicken and the egg.
This is where we had lunch.
Driver took a left on the way out of town, after he took a right and then took a left and then ended up on the top of the hill.  Everyone agreed it was worth the drive.  You can see the "Spit" from the top of the world.  Miss B is viewing in.
 Driver is recording!
 MK and Marsha are comparing!
Another Old Orthodox Church with great architecture.

Today we saw a total of 7 moose.  We saw three adults and four calves.  We also recorded one dead porcupine.  We came home and I tried to kill everyone off with a new recipe of "Sweet and Sour Chicken".  It was horrid!  We are heading back up north tomorrow.  Great day with great friends.  Driver is surviving.
