January 27 2014 -- Down to Flamingo Florida

Image
Up bright and early!  (9:00am EST)  We planned on having a day trip.  First stop, Krispy Kreme doughnuts fresh off the rack.  Yummy! On the way to the National Everglade Park, we passed field workers busy picking fresh produce.  When we returned in the afternoon, they were done. Now, we have been as far south as you can get on the main land of Florida. The bay was calm.  Weather was on the verge of hot for me,  perfect for Gary.  I like jacket weather and he must like it warmer.  It was comfortable in the shade with a breeze. We ate lunch at the Buttonwood Cafe.  We had a pizza and ice tea.  The hamburgers passing us by looked pretty good.  We had some strange brown meat on the pizza.  Looked like a spoiled hot dog or sausage.  Probably alligator. We then went into the Visitor's Center.  There was a eagle nest above the center.  As we were leaving you could see the white head peak above the nest.  (In the center of the picture of the Visitor's Center is

January 24 2014 -- Southern Florida

Thursday, we packed up and headed south towards the Everglades.  We got to the National Park early afternoon to find out that all the electric sites were full and normally are booked on line.  Usually, there are a few sites that are first come.  Nope, not here.  So we stayed in the dry campground without any hookups and with camping rules that state that generators can run from 8am-8pm.  It gets dark here around 6pm.  No TV, no computer, no reading (Nook)--what in the world do I do?  I crocheted until 9pm and headed to bed.  Gary plugged my sleep respirator into the converter and I went to sleep.......click, click, click......I thought what is he eating now?  Then I realized that the light on my machine was blinking in time to the clicking.  When I turned on the inside lights to check it out, my machine died.  I guess not enough power to handle the new larger more complicated breathing machine.  Therefore, not much sleep for grumpy pants. On the way down to Farmstead FL, we passed on

January 22 2014 -- Days at Moore Haven Florida

Image
Monday we took Hwy 27 south to Moore Haven.  We are staying in a large RV park that has over 200 spaces, two club houses, two ponds with two alligators and some otters, it is the typical Snow Bird nest.  They have organized activities for the guests. We followed this load of oranges and saw several trucks in the other lanes. We arrived in orange country.  Acre after acre of orange trees. Now the farm boy really got excited when we found sugar can harvest. We went to town today to get PVC pipe to build a drying rack for laundry.  We (I) had been looking around and most of the campers had PV pipe racks hanging from their ladders.  So, I Googled DIY laundry racks, found the pattern, revised the pattern and headed to town.  The is a view of the entry to the park we have stayed in for three nights.  I think we are paying around $18 per night.  I will have to check with Gary. M RV Resort; Moore Haven, FL He did get the rack finished but had a booboo.  He drilled

January 19 2014 -- Time to Eat Again

Image
Seems like all we do is eat, sleep and start all over.  I think I might be gaining weight because last night when I was going to bed I couldn't tell if I was coming or going!  This new body is really something to get use to. We finished off our gift card at Cracker Barrel.  Gary had his Fishhook Kent cap from The Dougherty Family and found this little sign at Cracker Barrel.  So, Jerry this one is for you. Here are my finished storage boxes for the pantry.  Pretty proud of them.  Debating on putting two in each hole; but wonder if I can see my "stuff" as easily.  He does a good job.  So, I gave hime the choice of soup, chicken fried steak, or fried Spam and potatoes and onions.  He choose the Spam Skillet.  He gets so excited when you feed him something he likes.  Don't ever offer corn on the cob and fried ham at the same time.  Don't think his heart could handle it! We are well and planning on moving on south tomorrow.  Gary and his neighbor buddies

January 11 2014 -- Just Tooting Around

Image
Nice title for two old farts?  Specially after last weeks Ham and Beans followed by a pot of Killer Chili........ "Hey, dear, I just saw Old Green."  Driver slammed on the breaks, made a right turn, and we got closer to take a better picture.  August, alias Mayor, I would rather have a sparkly metallic paint! We drove south to The Villages and ate our afternoon meal.  It has turned hot and humid here.  Yesterday after trying to stick it out, I turned on the air.  It even kicked on during the night a few times.  The humidity stinks and makes me smell too..... Today is game day.  Stay in your night gown, drink coffee, and enjoy ball games.  Love it. I did have to do a spread sheet for Skinny Bones.  She is recovering from a bad sinus infection and sounds like a sexy blond. I think the planner has decided he wants to go further south.  This suits me.  Who knows when we will be back to this area. I did see some oranges on a tree as we were driving to The Villag

January 8 2014 -- East to Daytona Beach

Image
Happy Birthday to Elvis! This morning we headed east to Daytona Beach.  No coffee because the driver promised me McDonalds.  Can you believe we didn't come across one until we hit the outskirts of town.  Just small towns between here and there. Atlantic Ocean  Donna wanted a picture of me with my feet in the water.  NOT TODAY!  Waves were coming in and it is still a bit chilly here.  80's for the weekend though.  Can hardly wait for some sunshine and warmer weather. GraMa  I guess I'm getting used to my my appearance.  This is the first picture I have volunteerly let anyone take. Hwy 1 (Daytona Beach) Not much going on here.  Next week I think we might see what Tampa looks like.  Doing fine and enjoying our travels.

January 6 2014 -- Sunday Brunch and Drive

Image
Yesterday, Sunday, we went to Cracker Barrel and had brunch.  I had breakfast and Gary had lunch.  I love to eat breakfast and he loves meat and potatoes.  So, we both were happy.  We took back the third faucet and got a refund.  So far, no water under the kitchen sink.  We drove around the square and took a side street through the historical district of older homes.  I have no pictures because I was talking to Deb for a short while. We then went to WalMart and got grub for another week. On the way home there are two trucks that take us back a few years.  The first one is a gray and white Chevy.  I think Jason bought it from us.  The second is a blue ranger that Gary traded for the stinking blue 4x4.  We do agree that we would have a lot more gas money if we had not traded cars every time one needed to be washed or have new tires. We still are doing well.  Just a few notes about the area.  The quarter back from Central Florida University is the top draft pick and is

January 4 2014 -- Busy days at Ocala Florida

Image
I guess it is a good thing that I bought a desk.  When I got into my cleaning supplies under the sink looking for furniture oil, I found the tub had about two inches of water in it.  We bought three different faucets and ended up putting the old one back.  The new ones all seem to have a need for three-four holes and our setup has only two.  The trip planner did get a hole cutter (he has several in his tool shed); but when he was preparing to drill he found a metal brace that was holding the sink up.  Bad idea to mess with something else.  We spent two afternoons driving from Lowes, WalMarts, and Home Depot.   Camping World; Ocala Florida  This town has a Walgreens on just about every block, so while driving buy we decided to pull in and get flu shots.  Gary got a flu and pneumonia shot.  My insurance insisted that they have a care facility in the building.  Therefore, I didn't get anything. We were up late last night watching the Mizzou vs Oklahoma game.  It was good!
