Day 71; July 7 - Anchorage to Cooper Crossing
Taught the girls how to get up and pack up and hit the road. No more McDonalds, No more CARRS (Safeway), No more Wal-Mart--Down the road we went......
We parked the camper at the Kania Princess RV Park. It is the prettiest park we have been in yet. It is associated with the Kania Lodge which lodges the guests on Princess Cruise lines. We have not been up to see the lodge yet; but that is on our list. Gary is waiting for MK and Miss B to get their swim suits on so we can post that picture. There are hot tubs at the lodge for our use. After we set back up, we ate lunch (sandwiches), rested a bit and drove back up the road to Whitter. This is a picture of the tunnel before we reached the two-mile one-way tunnel for cars and trains.
Here we are at the fee line to enter the tunnel.
There was a half hour wait for the other lane of traffic to pass. They line up the incoming cars in four lanes with traffic lights that alert you when it is time to enter the tunnel. There is also a light that makes you stay behind the front car 100 feet. Long dark tunnel.
As we waiting we spotted a glacier to the right. MK was afraid we might have a tsunami.
OK, it's our turn, here we go.
I told you it was a long dark tunnel, it had 8 emergency rooms located along the way.
WE made it to Whittier. It is a small harbor port.
Lots of boats were waiting. It was cold, we had to get out the emergency jackets under the seat.
MK is taking pictures of the view. It was a little windy.
These were old military bunkers that were emptied in the 60's. Driver tells me that they were constructed to handle 9.2 earthquake. MK is ready to move in. Queenie and I thought they might need a few repairs.
We headed back to the camper. Our guests were starting to drag from too much sugar. Queenie alias Mrs.
B is hungry all the time. Gummy bears is her craving. We bought 1.25 pounds of homemade fudge in Whittier. After we got back, the guests decided to take a shower while I whipped up friend potatoes and onions, hamburgers, baked beans......gourmet dinner for gourmet guests.
We are getting up early tomorrow to take our whale cruise. See ya down the road.
