February 29, 2012--Leap to the Bay

Image
We choose a trip to the bay for our road trip.  We headed south/east on Hwy 111 and then took Hwy 172.  We drove south and ended up by the ocean.  I took 23 pictures, but I will not burden you with them all. Oil Refinery, Oil Refinery, Oil Refinery........ Bay of Monaco (?)  We took this bridge over the Gulf.  You could see the Holiday Inn and Motel 6. I want to stay here next time.  The weather was great.  Warm. but not humid, breezy and just look at the clouds and trees.  You could stay in this park from October to March for $360 per month. We actually got out of the truck and walked out over the wetlands.  (Even after reading the "Don't Feed the Alligators" sign.) As I was walking along, I saw a lot of movement in the muddy water.  Got to looking, and no there was not an alligator in site; but these crabby looking varmints were all over the place and running into little holes.  (March 7 Update:  Debra (Roberta's daughter informed me that an alli

February 27, 2012--Last Wash Day in Seguin

I have been busy the last few days finishing a little quilt and crocheting an afghan for our new grand-daughter.  I sure will be glad to met her and have a name to put to her little face. These are my projects for this past month.  I don't have time to be bored.  I finished the tiger quilt last week and started the baby quilt..  Yesterday afternoon I finished the baby quilt after I bought more green material and then I finished the afghan last night before I went to bed. Last night I was putting our Sunday-night pizza in the oven and dumped it upside down on the floor.  (Don't tell anyone--I picked it up and threw the toppings back on it and stuck it in the oven!)  Couldn't tell.  Now you will watch me like a hawk when you come to eat at my house! I also took a new navy top that I had just bought and already had stained the front and added a heart and cut out the spaces between inch grids.  I just couldn't throw it away. Heard on the news that the strawberries

February 22, 2012--Over the Hills Again

Image
We chose a trip to the hill country again.  Gary enjoys driving through the country and we wanted to check out a campground we had seen on the first trip.  We drove west and found a Dress Barn (my new favorite place to shop for clothes).  It changes according to their collections.  Next week it will be somewhere else.  I stopped at Hobby Lobby and found yarn for the new crocheted blanket. In Bandara, I saw these horns.  Now this is what every farmer/rancher should have on their equipment. These two pictures we taken in the city park across from the Pioneer Campground.  They both are located along the river.  Now here is a peach and a palm tree Ha!  It was on the corner of the McDonalds.  Someone had to have his fix of sweet tea.  This is the court house in Hondo, Texas.  It was a beautiful example of the old building built with their limestone. We came home and I fried burgers and made fries.  We watched basketball.  I'm pretty nervous about the MU game on Saturday vs

February 21, 2012--Not Much New In Texas

Image
We haven't been doing much to write about. Sunday we went for breakfast and to buy groceries.  We stopped at Home Depot to get Gary's birthday gift of an air compressor with three guns.  We looked at single-wide modular homes.  Then to Wal-Mart we went. We did decide to buy a kitchen cart.  I was finding that I didn't have much counter space and it really seems to help.  It has a butcher top that I just rolled dough and made banana and coconut pies. It has a drop shelf on one end and a towel rack on the other.  I moved my baking pans into the storage area.  The storage under the stove was proving to be a black hole that things got lost.  So, the handyman built me a shelf with a basket that slides in and out so I can find things. Sign in the Court House Yard (Heard on a talk show the other day that Texas is the second pecan state.) *Georgia was #1* Monday Prissy and I had our hair done.  I worked on the quilt. Today, Tuesday we did laundry.  I also worked on

I just "love" my new quilting frame.  Why didn't someone tell me about this sooner.  It weighs under 10 pounds and the clamps make the quilt really snug and easy to put on the frame.  (Don't look at the kitchen counter.)  This is the box that the black blanket was mailed.  Aren't we lucky we have room to sit this up and still have more room to move around.  Better get busy and tie some more strings,  Go Tigers!

February 15, 2012--San Antonio

Image
You can tell how much we enjoy a trip by the number of pictures we take (50+).  First thing the hillibillies had to do was find a parking place and figure out how to pay for it.  We were only a few blocks from The Alamo.  The missions were impressive and the garden area around The Alamo was beautiful.  The Daughters of the Alamo are credited with its preservation.  We decided to take a tour of the city.  In the past this is the best way for us to find out what is available and the history behind things.  I took a lot of pictures of wonderful old buildings that had decor that the modern day civilization should try to copy. Space Needle that was created for the World's Fair  I believe there are five missions built along the San Antonio river.  Three were moved from other locations because of the raids upon them. San Antonio Dome (Built in hopes of a NFL Team  locating here.) Flood Control built after downtown was under seven feet of water. Guether Flour Mill (

February 14 2012--Sweetheart Day and Trip to Boerne

Image
We needed to do laundry today.  When I got in my seat in the truck, Mr. Romance had put a tin of chocolates in my seat.  Wasn't that sweet?  But I still had to do the laundry. After laundry, we came home and I straightened the house and then he said he was ready to take me out for lunch.  The dog trainer from New York had suggested a restaurant in Boerne (burn--eee).  I know?  go figure, no wonder I can't pronounce words.  And I learned that Seguin is (Sa-geen).  Boy, I'm getting smart. I'm also reading a history book about the King Ranch Saga.   Back to lunch, this is PaPa deciding what he wants to order at The Dodging Duck.  Can you believe it was warm enough to have dinner outside on the veranda in 70+ degree weather?  It was an interesting lunch.  We chose ground beef served with cheese, green peppers, and onions, homemade fries, and a greens salad.  It was different but good.  The chopped beef was served like a steak. I took some pictures of some of the old bu

Sunday we had breakfast at IHOP and went to Wally World and gave a boost to the stocks.  I think we bought enough groceries for a month.  It actually sleeted on us a little.  Chilly but still a lot better than the 6 degrees that was posted for Onaga.  I bought the 2012 Quicken for my computer so I could do the books and not have to go back and forth to Gary's computer.  I worked all afternoon and could not get it installed without an error message.  My old program was a 2001 and you had to update to the 2004 versions and then go to the 2012.  So, I sent an email to Quicken.com and waited. Monday we went to the post office to try to straighten up our mess with our address.  The driver (which can't hear very well anymore!) gave me the wrong address for Cappy's Cove RV Park.  He left out the 1 in front of the other four numbers.  Therefore, we have to go to San Antonio to pick up my quilting frame because the FedEx had the wrong address too.  The nice lady at the post office

February 8, 2012--Down to Corpus Christi

Image
It was a long day, but it was a good day.  We left around 9:30am and headed south down Hwy 123.  We drove through Victoria.  The landscape turned into flat farm land.  Our first sight of the San Antonio Bay. San Antonio Bay  We then drove through the Goose Island State Park and viewed their campgrounds on a complimentary pass.  Just outside of the park was a tourist attraction called "A Big Tree".  We saw this man and his team of horses out enjoying the beautiful day. A Big Tree  Gary wanted me to get a picture of a Spanish Style home.  I choose this one.  It was a beaut. After we left this house we came to the intersection of Park Road and Hwy 35 we were stopped for construction work.  We waited, we waited, and we waited.  Finally we decided to go back north and go home.  We ended up at Refugio.  We had lunch at Whataburger, got some tea for the driver, and he decided he really wanted to drive to Corpus Christi and I wanted to see King Ranch so we headed ba
