Day 57; June 23 - Chicken to Dawson Creek
This drive over was to be slow and tedious so we got up and left at 7:14am AT. The Canadian Customs was to open at 8:00am.
We started out with a full tank of gas, four bear claws, a cup of coffee, and a Diet Pepsi. Weather was not cooperating. Foggy and we couldn't see over the mountain, around the mountain, or hardly in front of us at times. We did see one moose today. I was trying to operate the camera with my left hand again and accidentally shut it off just as I had it zoomed upon the moose. Darn!
This was an old log cabin at the community of Boundary. It might have gas, it might have rooms, it might not be open. It was not. I might not want to stop anyway! Grass on the roof again.
Road conditions were bad. Mud roads that were slick red clay.
Made it to the Customs on time though.
View going down the hill towards Dawson Creek.
We crossed the river on a ferry to get to the other side.
Sun was shining on this side of the mountain. We had lunch. I even ordered a burger and fries. It was good!
Couldn't resist. We had ice cream cones in homemade chocolate covered waffle shells. I had Mocho Chip and Butter Pecan. Driver had strawberry. YUMYYY!
Back up the mountain we went. Customs closed at 6:00pm AT and we had to make sure we were there. If not if would not open again until the next morning and our bed was down in Chicken. We passed through more fog but there was some clear spots where we could actually see the scenery.
This is the Customs on the American side.
Must have rained pretty heavy on the mountain while we were gone. We went through a section where the water was running across the road and they had road workers with heavy equipment trying to direct the water in another direction. We also passed a small mud slide. Didn't get a picture.
Our poor old truck. This is the dirtiest it has ever been. Won't wash it until we get back down towards Tok tomorrow because we will have more mud to deal with. We did pass a camper that had been sucked into the side mud and then we meant the wrecker going after him. I bet he thanks his lucky stars for us dumb campers that just keep on coming.
