December 8 2013 - Sightseeing Around West Point GA

Friday afternoon we took off to check out two historical red boxes on the map.  Before we hit the roads, we drove to the other side of the lake.  That is our home across the way.  I've not know such peace in a long, long time.  Our simple life is good.  I can handle the things that need to be done and Gary is good about going to switch the laundry around after I get it started. I've been cooking more and feel alive.

The first attraction was the Callaway Gardens.  We drove through the woods and came to the entry gates.  They were blocked off so we didn't get to go inside.

The next stop was the Little White House.  It was built by Franklin D. Roosevelt.  He built it for around $6000.  He would come to the Warm Springs area to soak in the warm waters to try to help cure his polio.  I bought the movie "Warm Springs" about his life in this area.  I haven't had a chance to watch it yet.  You know we are really BUSY!

On the way home we passed through LaGrange and this horse and buggy was ready to give Christmas rides.  Just needs a little snow!  Ha!  Then we wouldn't be here.  We check out the surround weather and we travel as far away from cold weather as we can get!
While we were visiting the park ranger at the Little White House, he told us we should see the Callaway Gardens.  We told him they were blocked and he said they were getting ready to have the Trail of Lights at dusk.  Well, we missed that!
