New Mexico to Texas

March 5, 2015, Gary got pretty close to the age of 70.......we went out to celebrate at the Horseshoe Cafe in Benson AZ.

One the way we took pictures of an old motel.  It is on the historical registar and I love the old architecture.

On March 6, we had our free breakfast at Dennys and headed east towards Las Crues.  We crossed the New Mexico boarder again.

I guess someone besides me thought he might need direction?

I think this might be Las Crues as we top the hill?

We stayed behind a hotel for two nights.  The town had its historical sights too.

You can give me new buildings; but I love the old ones that have or tried to survive the years.

We left Las Crues NM and headed to Texas.  Several large, stinky feedlots along the Mexican border.  We got a message from our neighbor Janet Haskin that this is where she lived and worked for several years.  Not in the feedlots, she is a pharmacist.

Oh, we are getting closer to friends and family.  Entered Texas.

This was probably the worse campground we have stayed.    The Riverview RV Park in Fort Stockton TX.  The sign was trying to fall down; but we had water and electricity for the night.  The couple behind us had BIG problems, he tried to pull his mobilehome out from his space without raising his jacks.......

We stopped at McDonalds for a pit stop and get ice tea and 1/2 salad.  Tightwad about croaked when they charged him $1.50 for his tea and $.75 for an extra salad dressing.

I think we missed lambing season.  These babies were about as big as their mother.

We arrived at our destination for a week at Bandera TX.  It is the COWBOY Capital of Texas.  Haven't seen any that I think could even get on a horse!

We took a drive to Wal-Mart on Tuesday to get groceries.  Someone has big plans for this little home.

The next day we wanted to get out and see what there was to see.  Gary chose the Guadalupe River State Park and I chose the LBJ National Memorial.

He knows I hate to have my picture taken and he could have told me the wind had rearranged my hair.

These Texans like to build their houses on a hill with a view.

We got to Johnson City and found an old elevator as we were turning into the National site.

This is just a small part.  There was a museum and library; but we just drove around.  This is the LBJ boyhood home.

As we were headed back to Bandera, the driver made one of his sudden turn of the steering wheel and he was able to walk around the Johnson farm owned and settled by LBJs grandparents.

Another fine day in our lives.  We are going back on Friday if the weather is good to take a tour of the Johnson Ranch.  Yippy ka ole.
