Day 22; May 19, 2011 - Yellowstone
The east entrance to Yellowstone was open only between 6am-10am because of snow/mud slides. We had to get up and get moving. Cody is 60 miles from this entrance. We left around 8:20am. Perfect time of the year to go. No lines to wait on and Gary's Golden Pass allowed us free entry.
This picture is along the no-stopping miles where there were worried over avalanches. Wonder how they remove the snow through those 6-10 foot drifts?
Donna, just for you. Me and Old Faithful. COLD!!!!!! We only had to wait 15-20 minutes for her eruption.
I spent several minutes in the General Store/Viistor's Center.
While traveling along Highway 296/120 back to Cody we were stuck in a blizzard that you could hardly see. Accumulation on the roads got to be 3-4 inches, with slush under it. It was really slick. This camper (yes, it is a Montana with his "Hog" on the back) was stuck and we had to pass. A rancher in a red truck had stopped to help him. I sure hope they made it to the top; but the ride down was slick and a situation that you would not have wanted the extra weight pushing you. We were sure glad when we reached the lower attitude and the temperatures started raising and the snow turned into rain.

Mama and Baby Buffalo along the river.
Elk
Buffalo Crossing in the Crosswalk. Can you see it marked on the payment? Smart Buffalo.
YES! HERE IT IS! I SAW ONE, I SAW ONE! PEEK-A-BOO. IT WAS THE LITTLE BLACK SPOT HIDING BEHIND THE TREE. A LITTLE BLACK BEER THAT WAS ONLY ABOUT 4 FOOT TALL. WE WERE TRYING TO GET BETTER PICTURES; BUT A FOREST RANGER (I HAD ANOTHER NAME FOR HER) CAME ALONG AND INSISTED THAT THE TRAFFIC MOVE DOWN THE ROAD AND THERE WAS NO PULL OFFS.
Elk
North Entrance to Yellowstone from Montana
Fly Swatter after having Prissy travel with us! I had just seen my second bear. It was a larger brown bear (I would guess five foot when standing) walking along a stream in the bottom. We found a spot to pull over for pictures; but BIG MOUTH would not shut up and I didn't want to ruin the experience for the other travelers.
