Day 104; August 9 - Crescent City to Redding, CA

We left the west coast with mixed feelings.  We are ready to see our family and friends; but this has been a trip of a lifetime.  Every now and then I reach over and hug the driver and tell him how lucky we have been to see everything and do everything we have been doing.  He informs me luck had nothing to do with it; it was years of hard work and planning.

Anyway, we were in for a great difference in temperatures.  We left the shores at 58 degrees and our window temperature gauge on the truck recorded 107 degrees when we reached Redding.

On the way down Highway 101, we came across a herd of elk.  The whale was still in the river when we crossed that bridge too.  We did not stop and get out this time.

Goodbye Ocean!
!

Here we are heading into the central mountains of California.  This was a section of pretty ones.  We went through some that were made of clay and the trees were gnarly.  Our poor old diesel got too hot pulling the camper over a 8% grade with over 100 degree temps.  We had to get out and sit and let it cool off.  I got the clippers out and was going to trim Miss Priss because she has her winter fur coat on too.  I was dressed in long jeans, long sleeve shirt, socks and shoes because it had been cool.  Now I was kicking off my shoes and socks and could hardly wait until we got to the shower.

Don't know a lot.  Waiting for the driver to come back from the repair shop.  Maybe he will come home with a new truck!  I think he is wishing he had purchased the good buy back in Cody.  Wish us luck!
