December 12 2013 -- Virginia and South Carolina
We have two pooped old codgers sitting in our chairs tonight. Let me see if I can remember where these pictures were taken. I saw this sign at Pollards Corner. I was trying to teach Roberta, Roberta, Roberta how to put pictures on Facebook and Gary was taking a break. But I thought this park sign was appropriate for the Christmas season.
Gary chose this park (R. Shaefer Heard) for the next few days. Great! heavy trees and no satellite signals for us. The satellite sitting on the bank belonged to one of the camp hosts up the hill. He said this was the only place he could pick up a signal and sometimes it did not work. It got cold during the night. (26 degrees) Gary said he was tired of being cold so our travel plans changed. We are headed south.
Once again, he is hooking up and heading now the road. We only stayed here one night. It was a Corp of Engineer Park so the cost was $12 per night. Diesel was running at $3.59.
Somewhere along the road I saw this old church. Just look at it. Grand!
As we traveled further south the vegetation started to change. We saw palm trees. The drive down this road was wonderful.
Here we are crossing the bridge to the Hunting Island State Park. Thought to myself, won't have trouble getting a satellite signal here. Wrong!
As we turned into the park, it immediately turned into a jungle. Trees and undergrowth everywhere. It was pretty but not conducive to finding three satellites out in the southern sky. This park is different than any we have stayed. You could hardly tell where you were to park. Just water hook ups and electricity boxes sitting around under the trees.
As we were driving through the park trying to find a space that was open, Gary spotted this buck sitting up camp. Maybe Santa and his Elves are in the vicinity.

We decided on a site that was close to the office. After moving the dish three times, we picked up two of the satellites and seem to have the local networks on the antenna. I think we might live. Don't want to miss any of my games and Gary has to watch his Fox News----gag, gag, gag..
